Dr. ROBERT J. GARMSTON is an Emeritus Professor of Educational Administration at California State University, Sacramento and Co-Developer of Cognitive Coaching with Dr. Art Costa and Co Developer with Bruce Wellman of Adaptive Schools. Formerly a classroom teacher, principal, director of instruction and acting superintendent, he works as an educational consultant and is director of Facilitation Associates, a consulting firm specializing in leadership, learning, personal and organizational development. He previously served as a principal in Saudi Arabia at the Aramco Schools in Dhahan and Abqaiq.

The Center for Adaptive Schools at www.thinkingcollaborative.com supports schools in developing organizational and professional capacity for self-directed, sustainable improvement in student learning. Dr. Garmston has made presentations and conducted workshops for teachers, administrators and staff developers throughout North America and worked with international educators in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, and South America. His work has been translated into Arabic, Dutch, Hebrew, Italian, and Spanish.

Author and co-author of ten books, his most recent are Lemons to Lemonade: Resolving Problems in Meetings, Workshops and PLC's with Diane Zimmerman and Cognitive Capitol: Investing in Teacher Quality with Art Costa and Diane Zimmerman. The Adaptive Schools, Cognitive Coaching and The Presenters' Field Book are currently being revised for third editions.
