Some trails should never be walked alone...

Annie Pattison sets out on a hundred-mile trek through the Scottish Highlands, carrying the ashes of her late husband to the highest peak of his favourite trail. This journey was meant to be a final goodbye-a way to honour the man she loved.

But the trail is not empty.

At night, she wakes to the sound of footsteps circling her tent-slow, deliberate. The wind carries eerie whispers that don't belong to the living. In the morning, she finds chilling notes, each one weighed down by a bloodied stone and a lifeless mouse. The feeling that she is not alone tightens around her like a noose. She is not just being watched-she is being followed.

And then she sees him. Standing in the mist. Wearing her dead husband's jacket.

Terror grips her, but deep beneath the panic is something worse-recognition. It isn't just the jacket. It's the way he stands. The way he moves. His presence is in the trees, in the shifting fog, in the desolate mountains.

There is nowhere left to run. The mountains are vast. The shadows are closing in, and Annie is about to learn just how much her husband kept from her. Annie thought she knew the man she married, but there were secrets he never shared-secrets that got him killed - and the same people who silenced him have been waiting for her to follow his path.
