Who We Are
For more than 55 years, Goodwill of the Heartland has helped people in southeastern Iowa and west-central Illinois reach their full potential through education, training and the power of work.
Proceeds from the resell of donated goods provide free-of-charge skills training, independent living programs and career services for people throughout our area. Because of your donations and purchases, people with significant disabilities remain connected to their local community, employers are matched with skilled job seekers, former military veterans more easily reintegrate into civilian life and people from all walks of life access the skills and training they need to pursue jobs with family-sustaining wages.
Our Values
Each day our team strives to reflect our core “PRIDE” values, which guide how we interact with each other, shoppers, business partners, program participants and our community:
- Pursuit of excellence
- Respect for individuals
- Integrity
- Dedication to mission
- Empowerment
Our Impact
Last year alone, Goodwill of the Heartland responsibly recycled more than 9 million pounds of goods, diverting items that might otherwise wind up in local landfills. We engaged with more than 700,000 community donors, worked with more than 750 people in our career centers and provided more than 660 job placement services. Through partnerships with a host of local human service agencies, we distributed more than $100,000 in free shopping vouchers to individuals and families in need. Services also were provided to more than 12,000 people with barriers to employment and independent living.
Our Footprint
We operate 18 traditional Goodwill Stores, an Outlet Store, a specialty computer shop as well as an eCommerce facility. Within Mission Services, we have three Day Habilitation centers for adults with significant disabilities, six Career and Support Services facilities and eight Career Centers that serve local employers as well as job seekers. We also contract with various governments and agencies to provide maintenance services at official buildings and operate a vegetable oil packaging plant that ships fortified oil around the globe.
