Goodwill Industries of the Columbia-Willamette (GICW)
Our Mission:
GICW’s mission is to provide vocational opportunities to people with barriers to employment.
GICW’s retail program has two purposes: to integrate people with barriers to employment into our workforce and to generate funding for our vocational programs.
In 2011, GICW served more than 40,000 people with barriers to employment through GICW vocational programs, including Job Connection, Employee Career Enhancement and English-as-a-Second Language.
GICW placed 10,109 people with barriers to employment into community employment positions during 2011. Total 2011 revenue was $122.3 million.
2011 retail/salvage revenues were $117.3 million.
Last year, GICW paid more than $50.1 million dollars in wages and benefits, to people with barrier to employment. GICW’s total payroll, including taxes and benefits, was $65 million.
GICW has been the #1 Goodwill-retailer in the country for 21 consecutive years.
GICW currently operates 44 retail and outlet stores and one Internet store in northwest Oregon and southwest Washington.
Through the sale of donations, more than 90-cents of every dollar goes directly to GICW local Job Service Programs.
All of GICW’s 45 stores reflect a uniform standard of accessibility, safety, and efficiency and provide a pleasant environment for shoppers and employees.
GICW’s traditional retail sales per square foot have increased from $56.29 in 1985 to $237.79 in 2011. The national industry average is $118.53.
In 2011, GICW collected more than 173 million pounds of donated goods – more than any other Goodwill in North America, including those in much larger cities like Los Angeles, Chicago or New York.
In 2010 The Portland Business Journal named GICW in the top ten of most admired nonprofits in Oregon.
